Art of Awareness

Thoreau wrote: "Only that day dawns to which we are awake." The art of awareness is the art of learning how to wake up to the eternal miracle of life with its limitless possibilities.
It is rising to the challenge of stirring old hymn: "Awake my soul, stretch every nerve."
It is developing the deep sensitivity through which you may suffer and know tragedy, and die a little, but through which you will also experience the grandeur of human life.
It is following the philosophy of Albert Schweitzer who teaches "reverence for live," from ants to men; it is developing a sense of oneness with all life.
It is identifying yourself with the hopes, dreams, fears, and longings of others, that you may understand them and help them.
It is learning to interpret the thoughts, feelings, and moods of others through their words, tones, inflections, facial expressions, and movements.
It is striving to stretch the range of eye and ear; it is taking time to look and listen to comprehend.
It is searching for beauty everywhere, in a flower, a mountain, a machine, a sonnet, and a symphony.
It is knowing wonder, awe, and humility in the face of life's unexplained mysteries.
It is discovering the mystic power of silence and coming to know the secret inner voice of intuition.
It is enlarging the scope of your life through the expansion of your personality.

Tire it Forward ...

Source Anonymous One of my friends, let's call him Jose, is one of those guys who doesn't even need to say anything and people will just feel comfortable in his presence. He is an amazingly compassionate guy, who will flat out tell you that his purpose in life is to bring more beauty on this planet. No, if's, and's, but's ... clear and simple, unwavering in his life mission. He doesn't need to convince anyone and he can't be swayed from it by anyone else. It's a funny story about how he learned his initial lesson of compassion. In high school, he was madly in love with his sweet heart for many years. He would do anything for her and she was the important thing for him. Until ... she left him oneday (perhaps she cheated on him before that). It hit him like a bucket of cold water. Never before had he encountered such a loss and he didn't know what to do. Roaming aimlessly through life, doing his...

An Evening with Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne

Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne ( a great social worker) from Sri Lanka came to the house of a Charity Focus volunteer for guiding a meditation and discussion. I was fortunate to attend this session. Some great, humble people had gathered for the wonderful evening. Dr. Ariyaratne is a very simple and humble man. His behaviour made him a part of the crowd and he could only be distinguished when introduced to everyone. He is serving 15000 villages of Srilanka on daily basis. He works on principles of Gandhian and Buddhist philosphy and believes in total non-violence. In a country where terrorism is an every day problem, Dr. Ratne preaches goodness, unity, hard work and peace through his teachings, work and meditation sessions. He inspires people to work together and resolve their day to day issues instead of waiting for better resources or help from government or others. He is serving thousands of people and helping them live a better life in difficult circumstances. His session mentioned abo...
